Declarations of Pope Benedict XVI regarding condoms: Charles Michel opposes such irresponsible statements

As a side note to his visit to Cameroon, which began on Tuesday, 17 March, Benedict XVI stated that the distribution of condoms is not a solution for fighting the AIDS epidemic affecting the world. "On the contrary," he said, "it increases the problem".

Charles Michel is outraged by these declarations, which are irresponsible and jeopardise the massive efforts made by those combating this scourge. The use of condoms continues to be a key aspect in preventing the spread of AIDS.

These types of statements put vulnerable populations at greater risk and as such, Charles Michel strongly protests against their repetition.
