Fair Trade is based on the idea that “everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity” (Article 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights).
By consuming Fair Trade products, each of us has the power to improve the living conditions of millions of small producers.
Belgian development cooperation supports Fair Trade. To this end, it has set up the Trade for Development Centre, a centre promoting knowledge about and use of Fair Trade products in Belgium.
