The European Union in 2011
A series of enlargements over more than half a century has seen the European Union grow from 6 to 27 Member States.
Today, the EU is set to expand further, with Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Turkey and Montenegro now Candidate Countries for membership.
