Protocol’s basic mission – organisational chart

The Protocol Directorate, led by the Head of Protocol, provides guidance for the bulk of official relations between foreign diplomatic representations in Belgium on the one hand and the Belgian state on the other. It also directly manages the majority of operations relating to the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations (1961) and Consular Relations (1963) as well as the headquarters agreements concluded between Belgium and the international organisations either established on its soil or with representative offices there.

Such operations include the assurance of diplomatic privileges, immunities, facilities and customs.

The Directorate also is in charge of granting and recognising nobiliary concessions and honorary distinctions of the National Order. Moreover, it is responsible for organising international conferences and managing the infrastructure of Egmont Palace, the Egmont Conference Centre and Val Duchesse.
