Biometrics and Belgians abroad
If you reside abroad, applying for a new biometric passport is not always straightforward. Indeed, in many cases, you will have to travel long distances to provide your biometric data.
The passport applicant must be physically present
Unlike many other countries, Belgium has always been very flexible with its citizens residing abroad, allowing them to apply for their passport by post.
With the introduction of biometrics, this option is no longer possible. Every citizen will have to go and apply for a passport in person (from the age of 6) at the appropriate embassy or consulate.
