Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo makes ten million euro available over the next four years for innovative agricultural research conducted by the ‘Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)’, a worldwide network of research centers contributing to enhanced productivity, food security and sustainability in the agriculture. The funding will support, among others, the further development of the banana genebank of the KU Leuven.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo has decided to allocate 3 million euros for agriculture rehabilitation in Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The Belgian Development Cooperation will support a programme of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). The programme covers a period of two years.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo has met today with Elwyn Grainger-Jones, Executive Director of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) since October 2016. This organisation is an important multilateral partner of the Belgian Development Cooperation. During the meeting, a framework arrangement was signed for the cooperation in the coming years. In 2016, the Belgian Development Cooperation has contributed 4 million euros to CGIAR.
