The archives department has been storing, making inventories and evaluating some 15 km of Belgian diplomatic records since 1830 and colonial records since 1885, when Congo Free State was founded.
All the departments combined, i.e. the diplomatic archive, the African archive and the historical service, make the archives service an important documentation centre, both for the services of Central Administration and for our diplomatic missions.
The archives department of the FPS Foreign Affairs also attracts a large audience of researchers from Belgium and around the world.
