Didier Reynders regrets suspension of cooperation Burundi with UN Office for Human Rights
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders regrets the decision of the Burundian authorities to suspend their collaboration with the United Nations Office for Human Rights in Burundi and to declare persona non grata the three independent UN experts who investigated on the human rights situation in Burundi in the context of the EINUB (Enquête indépendante des Nations Unies sur le Burundi) mission. Belgium also deplores the intention expressed by the Burundian authorities to withdraw from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
With these measures, the Burundian Government hurts the credibility of its commitment in favor of human rights and the fight against impunity.
Minister Reynders calls on Burundi to reverse these decisions, to fully cooperate on human rights with the United Nations, and to set its activities in the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 2303 (2016) and the UN Human Rights Council Resolution adopted on 27 September 2016.
