Didier Reynders condemns new attack against MINUSMA in Mali
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders strongly condemns the new attack on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), on 3 October in the Kidal region. Once again the Mission has to deplore casualties. A Chadian soldier was killed, eight of his colleagues were injured.
There has been an increase in the number of serious security incidents in Mali lately. This new attack against MINUSMA must be denounced even more strongly as it is an attempt to undermine the implementation process of the peace agreement.
Minister Reynders expresses his solidarity and his deep sympathy with the Secretary General of the United Nations, his Special Representative and Head of MINUSMA, the MINUSMA Command, the countries contributing troops and in particular the bereaved Chadian contingent.
Belgium closely follows the situation in Mali. 175 of our soldiers participate in the European Training Mission ‘EUTM Mali’ and our country also contributes with seven soldiers integrated into the Dutch contingent of MINUSMA.
