Didier Reynders condemns adoption by Israeli Parliament of the “regularization law”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders, just like EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, condemns the recent adoption by the Israeli Parliament of a law aiming at legalizing thousands of housing units built on private Palestinian land in the West Bank.

This law is a new step in the settlement policy since it paves the way for the future "legalization" of many settlements and outposts considered illegal under Israeli law.

As has been clearly pointed out by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 of 23 December 2016, colonization is illegal under international law. It also constitutes an obstacle to peace and may seriously jeopardize the possibility of a two-state solution, which remains the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Belgium calls on the Israeli leaders not to implement this law and to refrain from any measures likely to further undermine confidence between the parties and to further the prospect of a peaceful solution to the conflict.
