Didier Reynders meets with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders has met today with his counterpart from Algeria, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra. The meeting was organized in the margins of the International Conference on Mediation. The meeting allowed for a follow up of the visit of Prime Minister Charles Michel to Algeria in December 2016. Bilateral police cooperation, intelligence cooperation and the fight against radicalism and terrorism were at the center of their discussions.
Didier Reynders insisted on an active role for the European Union in support of the African Union and the regional partners for the implementation of the Algiers Agreement, which will contribute to the stabilization and pacification of the Sahel. Human rights, the Western Sahara and the future of the cooperation between the European Union and the Maghreb countries were also touched upon.
