Didier Reynders worried on the arrest of human rights defenders in Turkey

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is worried on the arrest of 8 human rights defenders in Turkey, among whom the director of Amnesty International In Turkey and two international experts who were assisting in a workshop on digital freedom and the protection of human rights defenders in Istanbul. Earlier, the president of Amnesty International in Turkey was arrested.
 
Minister Reynders joins the UN Special Rapporteur on the freedom of expression David Kaye in calling for the release of all those detained for the exercise of their right to free expression. He underlines the importance of respecting individual rights, among which the right to a fair trial, in accordance with the Turkish Constitution and the obligations of Turkey under international human rights treaties.
