Didier Reynders worried by the tensions in East Jerusalem
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders expresses his concern about the continuing tensions in East Jerusalem. He calls on all parties to restrain and dialogue in order to put an end to violence and prevent more victims.
The Minister emphasizes that it is absolutely necessary to refrain from any act or statement that might aggravate the conflict and strongly encourages all measures contributing to a return to calm, such as the withdrawal by the Israeli authorities of metal detectors and other measures that had been taken in the old city, as well as calls by Muslim religious authorities to return to pray at the Esplanade of Mosques.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also recalls the importance of maintaining status quo and the need to ensure security without prejudice to it and without affecting free access to the holy sites.
