Rohingyas: Didier Reynders welcomes the agreement between Myanmar and Bangladesh
The 13th ASEM Foreign Minister meeting took place on 20-21 November in the capital of Myanmar. This meeting allowed good discussions between European and Asian Countries on the crisis in Northern Rakhine.
On 23th November, the governments of Myanmar and Bangladesh signed a bilateral repatriation agreement. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders welcomes this important step towards addressing one of the worst humanitarian crises of the moment. He supports the declaration of the EU High Representative Mogherini. This agreement must now be implemented under the right conditions. This will allow for a voluntary, safe and dignified return of the refugees to their places of origin.
Didier Reynders also reiterates his call to take long-term measures to guarantee decent living conditions to the Rohingya population within Myamar. He will closely follow the swift implementation of the recommendations of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State.
