The Europe Direct information centres are an initiative of the European Commission. Set up in 1997 in cooperation with the FPS Foreign Affairs, most of these centres operate in the provinces and receive support from the provincial authorities.
The Europe Direct information centres:
-
Facilitate societal interaction and dialogue on the EU and its policy priorities, such as the European Green Deal or the Recovery Plan for Europe, through events or activities, online or offline;
-
Establish and maintain regular contacts with local media and other information channels, providing them with information on EU policies and priorities;
-
Helps the Commission identify local issues related to the EU and its policies;
-
Promote active European citizenship in schools;
-
Promote coordination between EU networks serving citizens, businesses, organisations and associations, and other stakeholders, in the different Belgian regions.
