Europe Direct, Europe in your neighbourhood
The Europe Direct information centres are an initiative of the European Commission. Set up in 1997 in cooperation with the FPS Foreign Affairs, most of these centres operate in the provinces and receive support from the provincial authorities.
The Europe Direct information centres:
- Inform the general public about the EU and its policies by distributing brochures and organising debates on topical European issues;
- Provide people with practical information on their rights as citizens of the European Union;
- Refer certain queries to other EU services (for example, SOLVIT) which are responsible for solving specific types of problems.
