In February, all the heads of our diplomatic missions gathered in Brussels. On the programme was a meeting with 260 Belgian entrepreneurs who want to start operating abroad.
Every year, the ‘heads of post’ return to the Central Administration in Brussels to take part in the so-called ‘diplomatic contact days’. In addition to our ambassadors, they also include the consuls-general and Belgium's permanent representatives within international institutions. By attending this event, they are able to keep in touch with what is happening at home and with Belgium, the country they represent abroad.
Back in 2022, we told you about the diplomatic contact days that were going ahead at that time. This time, we are highlighting one part of that event that is very much a fixed item on the programme: Meet the Ambassador. The reason for that is because every time they are held, the diplomatic contact days provide entrepreneurs from Belgium with an opportunity to meet our heads of post. Indeed, with their extensive network, our embassies and consulates are ideally positioned to assist Belgian companies seeking to export to or cooperate with a country that forms part of their jurisdiction.
110 or so companies
As many as 260 Belgian entrepreneurs answered the call from our FPS to come and meet our ambassadors. Overall, they represented around 110 companies from very different sectors, from energy, construction, technology and biopharma to food and beverages.
The Meet the Ambassador event is also an excellent opportunity to follow up on recent economic missions, such as the princely mission to Brazil and the mission to Benin and Togo. Our heads of post held discussions with the companies that took part in order to find out how business had developed once the mission was over and sought to identify what opportunities there were to provide additional assistance to make profitable use of their contacts and contracts.
After the event, the entrepreneurs said that they were extremely satisfied, not only with the heads of post they had already been in contact with, but also with those that they hadn't met before.
