On Friday, March 13th, the Sablon diplomatic Circle visited the BEDEX - Brussels European Defence Exhibition & Conference at the Heysel.

The embassies were warmly welcomed for a varied programme that included in‑depth presentations as well as ample networking opportunities.

The activity began with welcome remarks delivered by Mr. Pascal Heyman, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, accompanied by Lieutenant General Frédéric Goetynck, Vice Chief of Defence. Both highlighted the importance of the event and the role of the Belgian defence sector.

A guided tour of the exhibition followed, led by general Franchomme and Ms. Lucy Souvy from FN.

The delegations successively visited:

  • The Defence stand, offering an overview of Belgium’s current defence capabilities and ongoing projects.
  • The Smart Village, where participants met SMEs and research centres from various countries and received further explanations on a range of innovative projects.
  • The FIT (Flanders Investment & Trade) stand, hosting 11 companies and providing information on opportunities for economic, industrial, and technological cooperation.
  • The FN Browning stand, showcasing cutting-edge defence and security solutions. The group also had the opportunity to meet Walloon Minister-President Adrien Dolimont.

The visit concluded in the VVIP lounge, where guests could continue their discussions, enjoy refreshments, and share a drink.
