Minister Goffin recalls our duty to never forget the Holocaust at the IHRA Ministerial Conference

Today Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Philippe Goffin participates in the conference of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) at the Residence Palace in Brussels. This is the second ministerial conference of this association, focusing on the remembrance of the Holocaust and the prevention of genocide.

Established in 2000 through the Stockholm Declaration, the IHRA brings together 34 member states, 8 observer countries and 8 international organizations. Its objective in 2020 is to achieve a wider dissemination of the Holocaust in school curricula. For an inclusive society, it is crucial to educate new generations in tolerance and respect for fundamental freedoms: there is no place for hatred, racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism in this respect.

On the eve of the 75th commemoration of the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp, Minister Goffin stresses the essential preventive role of continued attention to the Holocaust and education about the Shoah. By keeping the memory of these atrocities alive, together we are helping to ensure that they will never happen again.
