You are in Belgium and you need to travel quickly?

In this case, you can apply to your municipal administrative service for an emergency passport (if you reside in Belgium) or to the passport service of a municipal administrative service (if you reside abroad and are in Belgium temporarily).

This emergency procedure allows you to obtain your passport on the working day following your application, provided that the production centre receives the application before 3 pm (if you reside abroad, your registration post must have submitted its approval in the programme before 3 pm so that the application can be sent for production).

An emergency passport will cost more than a standard passport.

You are in Belgium and you have to travel abroad urgently for humanitarian reasons?

At the FPS Foreign Affairs, we can issue a temporary passport very quickly on pressing and justified humanitarian grounds (e.g. in the event of a serious accident abroad involving a close family member, the admission of a close family member to hospital in a critical condition, or the disappearance or death of a close relative abroad) when the applicant can and must leave immediately.

This temporary passport is valid for a limited period and does not allow travel in all countries in the same way as the standard passport.

The FPS Foreign Affairs' passport service only receives applicants by appointment. Outside of opening hours, the Foreign Affairs' duty service can also help you. You can contact both services by calling the general number 02/501.81.11.

Attention: the conditions for obtaining a temporary passport are very strict and it is only issued for exceptional circumstances. Be sure to follow the correct procedure.

You are abroad and you have to return to Belgium or travel urgently?

You are on holiday abroad and your Belgian travel document (passport or identity card) has been lost or stolen? You need a document to be able to return to Belgium? You reside abroad and you have to travel urgently (to Belgium or another country)?

Our embassies and consulates can, under certain conditions, issue a temporary passport to help you. This temporary passport is valid for a limited period and does not allow travel in all countries in the same way as the standard passport.

For further information, contact the competent Belgian representation for where you are.
